mas o tempo vai mas o tempo vem

ola, how goes it?
Here every thing's going alright.

Today I left my regular part-time job I had at a retail store to start focusing more on my possible illustrative education/career/development.

Last year, I was given the great opportunity to start working as a freelance illustrator for a popular magazine from back home ( Brasil ) called Mundo Estranho. It's a magazine that usually brings curious information/facts in their articles, I particularly have a good time reading it, and usually end up with a good amount of strange facts piling up in my head for posterior conversations.

As far as working with them, it's usually a great experience, as most of the editors are great guys - Bernardo, Fabricio e Diego, voces sao demais mesmo, obrigado por confiarem em mim e apoiarem meu trampo.Acho que a experiencia melhora a cada nova pagina.- and give me a good deal of freedom with the illustrations. Depending on the deadline or article, I sometimes get to finish the illustrations with a bit more of me in them.

Anyhow, it's a growing experience. So, I thought since it's taking a bigger part of my work now, it was about time I posted something of it here. So, here's my work for this month which should be coming out on next month's issue. It was the ever shape shifting cover.

The them is not really my thing, but i still had my share of fun with it.
It all started out with some watercolours + gouache.
click it.

Then it went to Photocrops.
no clicking on this one...

Then at last....the edited and completed cover!

This was actually our second cover attempt. Its was sort of a headache here and there, spending some sleepless nights working on it, crazy deadlines. Only because their first awesome idea was rejected by the supreme boss for fear it was too aggressive for some eyes. So, I might post something from that rejected first cover later on if anybody becomes curious.

So that's that.

now some old sketchies from sleepless nights.

Next post will come soon, and hopefully with more recent personal work on the way! Including but not limited to Bossa Nova, a couple years old idea that is coming back to life thanks to a friend of mine. If you ever saw a post where there was a chick with short green hair, some squid carrying a giant piece of land...than you'll be seeing them again soon.

Thanks again for all the support and feedback!

passar bem!

Now here comes the comment that breaks all the harmony among the portuguese comments here:

Wow. Wow. Wow. I am totally in love with your work. Every post you make confirms it more and more. Your line is wonderful and fluid and your use of color is impeccable. You'll have a lot of success in your career as an illustrator, like your fellow countryman JPAlvaresRuas. Yup. Great work.

I agree with the girl above! Thanks for your kind words too. How are you?

Did I not comment on this?! Despicable! Great painting man, the style of the hands reminds me slightly of A Scanner Darkly. It's great that you got a magazine cover published too. Congratulations on that! Looking forward to your next post.
